Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned I didn't want to take time from from a busy schedule to go to one of the few office furniture stores that carry high end brands like Steelcase, so I bought the chair mail order hoping that a big discount on a famous chair would solve my home office chair problem at a reasonable price. I broke my cardinal rule of furniture buying: Never buy a chair you haven't sat in, and now I'm regretting it. The one I use at work has far fewer adjustments, but is actually more comfortable and probably cost half what I paid for this one. Three hundred dollars buys a LOT of office chair. But I didn't pay $100 for it, I paid $300. If I had bought this chair for $100 I would have said it's not perfect, but it'll do fine for a while until I find something I like better. What's not great is the value for money equation. Compared to that, this chair is a great improvement. I bought this chair to replace a wooden kitchen chair that I had been using at the desk in my office. The upholstery on the seat also feels a little uneven, and in fact looks uneven if you look at the chair carefully from the front.
The seat has a slight forward tilt to it that I can't get rid of (the lip adjustment on the front of the seat doesn't change the overall angle). The chair looks nice enough, but despite its numerous adjustments, I can't find a position for it that's truly comfortable. In my opinion, even a new one in the box is not worth what the open box price was. The open box price was less than half what these supposedly go for new.
It has more options than a standard chair you'd buy at Walmart, but I don't see why there should be such a massive price difference.
I bought a new cylinder and after finding a video on youtube (they don't seem to have any info on the steelcase website), I finally found out how to remove the seat bottom to adjust the plunger. The button seemed to get stuck inside the cylinder. The plunger adjustment that pushes the button on the cylinder wasn't set right and the seat would lower when you sat in it. This is a review of the chair itself and the value of it.Įven though it was an open box, the problems were more with how cheap this thing is. Got my chair fast and they did a good job shipping it.
